NEW ORLEANS — National-tournament runner-up Xavier University of Louisiana has a school-record three first-team selections — Kyle Montrel, Karan Salwan and Thomas Setodji — on the 2016 NAIA Men's Tennis All-America team announced Tuesday.
     Montrel, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., and a graduate of Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, is on the first team for the third consecutive year. The NAIA All-America committee selected 16 for the first team and 16 for the second team.
     Montrel was 16-10 in singles and 22-7 in doubles this season and was the Intercollegiate Tennis Association/NAIA Region IV (South) Senior Player of the Year. In four seasons at Xavier, Montrel was 62-30 in singles and 74-24 in doubles.
     Salwan, a junior from New Delhi, India, and a graduate of Modern School, was 22-5 in singles and 25-5 in doubles in his first XU season. He led the Gold Rush in singles and doubles victories and won a pair of singles tournaments during the fall.
     Setodji, a home-schooled freshman from Domont, France, was 17-0 in singles and 12-7 in doubles. He led the Gold Rush with eight clinching decisions in 17 dual-match victories.
     Salwan and Setodji were Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week four times apiece. Salwan, Setodji and Montrel are in the top 10 of the most recent ITA/NAIA singles rankings.
     The only other time the Gold Rush had multiple first-team All-Americans was in 2014, and Montrel and Nikita Soifer were cited. This is the fifth straight year that Xavier has a representative on the first team and the eighth time in nine years that the Gold Rush have a first- or second-team selection.
     More postseason individual honors will be announced soon, including the ITA's All-America team — based on final season rankings — and All-Louisiana, which is selected by a Louisiana Sports Writers Association panel.
