Xavier University of Louisiana’s Fitness and Recreation Center is proud to offer up-to-date weight lifting and cardio equipment, as well as a walking and running track, studio classes, spinning, and a gymnasium. The option to rent sports equipment, and access to showers and lockers is available as well.

Admission to Fitness Center
As a member of the Xavier University of Louisiana Fitness and Recreation Center, you have access to the entire facility and all equipment, which includes multiple weight lifting machines, a number of free weight racks, many treadmills, plenty of ellipticals, assorted stationary bicycles, a three-lane walking and running track, two studio rooms for various fitness activities and classes, plus a spinning room and a gymnasium.

Currently-enrolled Xavier students, Xavier faculty and staff members, spouses, and dependents must present an active X Card in order to access all that the Fitness and Recreation Center has to offer. Membership for students is complimentary, however University employees may purchase a membership for themselves and for their spouse and up to two dependents. Those without an active X Card may not access the facility. X Cards must swipe properly to gain access. Guests are not allowed entry.

Cost of Membership
Individuals who work for Xavier University of Louisiana and have an active X Card, may purchase a fitness center membership, paid by a payroll deduction, bank draft, credit card, or check. Spouses (legally married husband or wife) and dependents (unmarried and natural-born, adopted, stepchild, under legal guardianship) of university employees may be added to the membership for an additional fee. Only two dependents may be added, and spouses and dependents must accompany the member.

Xavier Faculty and Staff Members — $99, valid for one calendar year
Spouses and Dependents, ages 13-18 — $109, valid for the Member's calendar year

Memberships are non-transferable, and are to be used only by the person to whom they are issued, and are also non-refundable except in cases of physician-verified illness.

Facility Rules and Regulations
All students and Fitness Center Members must behave in a respectful manner while using the facility, and should be courteous, responsible, and safety-conscious at all times. Disorderly conduct and inappropriate language will not be tolerated.

Appropriate athletic footwear and attire must be worn in the fitness center at all times. Cut-off and cropped shirts are prohibited, as well as sports bras worn without a covering shirt. Only shoes with non-marking soles may be worn.

For the courtesy of others, if playing music, headphones should be worn. Portable speakers will not be permitted.

Please clean any equipment used including: weight machines, treadmills, ellipticals, and stationary bicycles. Disinfectant wipes are provided.

No food or gum will be allowed in the gym, weight lifting area, or activity rooms.

No drinks will be allowed in the gym, but water is allowed in the weight lifting area and activity rooms. Powerade and other refreshments may be consumed in the lobby area.

Xavier Department of Athletics and Recreation is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen X Cards.

Weight Room Rules
All weights must remain inside the weight lifting area.

Please be courteous and re-rack all weight plates on plate racks and dumbbells on dumbbell racks. Clean the benches and return them to their proper position, and place them out of the walk way. Weights may not be leaned against the walls.

Chalk use is not allowed. Gloves may be worn for better grip.

Bags and extra clothing must be stored or placed away from machines and equipment.

Walking/Running Track Rules
Slower runners and walkers must stay to the inside of the track, closest to the railing.

Pass on the outside of the track, closer to the wall.

The inside lane is for walking, while the middle and outside lanes are for jogging and running.

Injury Procedure
Any individual who is engaging in an activity that is irresponsible or unsafe must be reported.

Should an injury occur while using the facility, the fitness center staff member on duty must be notified. If the injury warrants medical attention, paramedics and Campus Police will be contacted.

Alarms will sound in case of fire or other emergency. The fitness center staff member on duty or campus police officer will then provide evacuation instructions.

Shower and Locker Use
Shower shoes must be worn throughout the restroom when taking a shower, and individuals must bring their own towels for shower use.

Belongings left in the lockers at the end of the day will be removed and placed in the lost and found. All lost and found items will be turned in to the fitness center office, and will be held for one week, then disposed of or donated if not collected.

The Fitness Center is not responsible for any items damaged, lost, or stolen from any activity areas or lockers.
