NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Megh Patel is the Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week in men's tennis for March 21-27.
        The RRAC announced Tuesday the award, which is Patel's first and the Gold Rush's fifth this season.
        Patel, a sophomore from Patan, India, clinched the Gold Rush's 4-3 victory at NCAA Division I University of New Orleans on the third singles court. Patel saved four match points in the second set and rallied to defeat Espen Lagarde 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 6-2. Patel trailed 5-2 in the second set.
        XULA, 12-5 and ranked fifth in the NAIA — the fifth coaches poll of the season was announced Wednesday — will play host to sixth-ranked William Carey at noon Saturday at XULA Tennis Center (3619 Pine St., zip 70125). The XULA and William Carey women also will meet at that time and venue.
