        NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana announced Friday its 2023 women's soccer schedule, which includes 16 regular-season games, eight at home.
        This is XULA's debut season in this sport.
        The Gold Nuggets will visit two-year LSU-Eunice in an Aug. 16 exhibition, then kick off the regular season Aug. 24 at home against Tennessee Southern, a three-time NAIA national champion (2021, 2007, 2005).
        All home games will be played in suburban Metairie, La., at Lafreniere Park. That facility is at 3000 Downs Blvd. and is 8.6 miles west of the XULA campus. Vehicles on Interstate 10 can use exit 225 at Veterans Memorial Boulevard.
        XULA's first Red River Athletic Conference game will start at 1 p.m. Sept. 14 against Southwest (N.M.) at Lafreniere. There are 14 RRAC women's soccer teams, and XULA will play each of those opponents once.
        Students, faculty and staff with a valid XULA ID are admitted free to home games.
        XULA is a longtime NAIA member and in its third season in the RRAC. XULA's first women's soccer team will be eligible for RRAC regular-season and tournament championships and a berth at NAIA nationals. The top eight teams in the RRAC regular-season standings will qualify for the conference tournament, and the top four seeds will play host to first-round games Nov. 3 or 4.
        XULA is fielding the first women's collegiate varsity team in New Orleans since Loyola in 2006 and Tulane in 2005.
