NEW ORLEANS — Marcus Yeager scored 23 points Saturday, including four 3-pointers in the final six minutes, to help Mobile defeat Xavier 51-44 in a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference men's basketball game at The Barn.
Aaron Burgess had career-highs of 13 points and 13 rebounds for Xavier (7-5 overall, 0-2 GCAC). Burgess was the Gold Rush's only double-figure scorer.
Kelechi Okoroha's basket with 6:19 remaining gave Xavier its only lead of the second half, 39-37, but Yeager put Mobile (8-6, 2-0) ahead to stay 29 seconds later with a 3-pointer. Yeager hit three more treys, the last with 1:22 remaining to make it 49-42, and finished with a season-high seven.
Xavier shot a season-low 28.9 percent from the floor, including 2 of 18 from behind the arc.
Mobile snapped Xavier's eight-game home winning streak.
Xavier's next game will start at 7:30 p.m. Monday against GCAC member and fifth-ranked LSU-Shreveport.
