NEW ORLEANS — Terralyn Dominick scored 22 points, including two 3-pointers in
the final 90 seconds, to rally Philander Smith to a 74-69 women's basketball
victory against Xavier University of Louisiana.
The Lady Panthers (11-10, 3-4 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference) defeated the Gold
Nuggets (13-10, 4-4) for the first time ever at XULA, which won the previous
eight meetings on its campus.
Dominick missed her first 10 3-point attempts, but connected on a trey with 1:23
remaining to tie the score at 67 and another with 50 seconds remaining to put
Philander Smith ahead to stay, 70-69.
Philander Smith outscored XULA 10-2 in the final 90 seconds.
Dominick also had seven rebounds and six assists. Anqunett Chatt made five 3-pointers
and scored 19 points for the Lady Panthers, Minyone Hill scored 11, and Amesha Brown
had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Maya Trench had 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals for XULA,
which dropped its third straight, and
Kelsee Singleton,
Mikayla Bates and
Gina Smith scored 10 apiece. Smith grabbed 11
rebounds to match her career best.
XULA will travel to the University of Mobile for
a 4 p.m. non-conference game Saturday.
