Sept. 13, 2017, update: Mobile at XULA has been canceled by
mutual agreement of both head coaches
NEW ORLEANS — Two events involving
Xavier University of Louisiana Athletics have been postponed as a result
of XULA's weather-related decision to close Tuesday.
Postponed were the Gold Nuggets' volleyball
home opener against the University of Mobile and a back-to-school
cookout for student-athletes, spirit groups, coaches and staff.
No makeup dates have been determined for either event.
XULA announced late Monday afternoon
that it would close Tuesday (Aug. 29)
based on the possibility of parts of the city experiencing street
flooding due to heavy rains from the outer feeder bands of Tropical Storm Harvey.
XULA will continue to monitor conditions but is hopeful of reopening Wednesday.
"We are disappointed to postpone these home events,
but the safety of our student-athletes is a top priority," said Director
of Athletics & Recreation
Jason Horn.
Next for XULA volleyball will be the third annual
Big Easy Blastoff at its Convocation Center. The Gold Nuggets will
play Friday at 3 p.m. against Texas Wesleyan and 7 p.m. against Rust.
The two-day, five-team, 10-match event will conclude Saturday.
