MOBILE, Ala. — Xavier University of Louisiana
got several key performances from its bench Saturday in a 25-20, 23-25,
25-22, 25-20 volleyball victory against Life at the University of Mobile Invitational.
The Gold Nuggets (7-4) snapped a two-match losing streak
and earned their first victory in three tries at this tournament.
They were scheduled to play William Carey later in the afternoon in their final
tournament match. XULA will play host to city rival Loyola at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Providing the spark from off the bench included:

Marine Angely with 12 kills and a career-high-tying
three aces.
•
Elena Duru with career highs of seven kills,
a .385 hitting percentage and four blocks.
•
Angele McClain with three kills, a season high,
and two blocks.
•
Mycah Boland with her first two digs
since transferring from Loyola.
•
Tiffany Phillips with three kills in
as many attempts and a season-high 19 assists.
Among the starters,
Kayla Black produced her third
straight kill-dig double-double and her eighth of the season. The preseason
Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Year had 13 kills and
a season-high-tying 17 digs.
Vivica Price-Spraggins, No. 3 in the NAIA
in hitting percentage, hit .476 with 12 kills.
Beatrice Formilan
had 23 digs; she reached 20 for the fifth time this season and
the third consecutive match. And
Jordan Johnson, celebrating
her 19th birthday, had five kills and five blocks.
Liz Mann had 18 kills, three aces and 14 digs for
the Running Eagles (5-11), who dropped their fourth straight. Chelsea
Hill had 11 kills.
XULA won the first set after trailing 13-10 and
the third set after trailing 14-9. In the final set a 15-6 run turned
a 7-5 Life lead into a 20-13 XULA advantage.
The Gold Nuggets outhit Life .261 to .127
and had advantages of 57-42 in kills, 70-55 in digs and 11-4 in blocks.
