JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —
Kayla Black served nine
aces Saturday to tie the Xavier University of Louisiana match record and lead
the Gold Nuggets to a 25-19, 23-25, 25-14, 25-11 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference
volleyball victory against Talladega.
The Gold Nuggets (17-4, 8-0), in the second of four GCAC matches
among four teams at Edward Waters College, stretched their GCAC lead to two matches over second-place
Dillard, a five-set loser in the opener to Edward Waters.
XULA will play Edward Waters at 6 p.m. EDT Saturday,
then bus home immediately afterward.
Black tied the XULA aces record set by Taylor Reuther in three sets
against Rust on Sept. 8, 2012. Teammate
Ema Causevic served eight aces Friday in a four-set victory at Mobile.
Black barely missed the Gold Nuggets' first-ever triple double.
She had 14 kills to share match honors with teammate
Vivica Price-Spraggins,
and Black produced a match-high 19 digs.
Jaida Dowd had eight kills, Causevic seven and
Maya Smith six for XULA. Price-Spraggins had two blocks.
Eva Le Guillou had
30 assists, an ace and eight digs.
Tiffany Phillips had 20 assists, a kill and seven digs.
Taylor McGee had 10 digs, three kills and three aces.
Keundra Rembert and Reanna Burroughs had nine kills apiece
for Talladega (8-7, 4-4), Bethany Holland had 27 assists and 11 digs, and Tamera Prince
had 14 digs.
XULA outhit the Lady Tornadoes .269 to .137 and produced
advantages of 57-38 in kills, 54-35 in assists, 14-4 in aces, and 81-61 in digs.
Talladega outblocked XULA 5-2.
The Gold Nuggets have won nine straight, which ties for
the sixth-longest streak in their history. XULA is 19-1 all-time against Talladega.
