SHREVEPORT, La. — LSU-Shreveport rallied in the final five minutes Saturday for a 60-57 women's basketball victory against Xavier University of Louisiana in the LSUS Classic.
The Gold Nuggets (6-4) did not score after
Nina German's two free throws gave them their largest lead, 57-54, with 5:04 remaining. XULA in the final five minutes committed five turnovers, including two offensive fouls, and missed two shots from the floor.
De'Auja Thompson's two free throws at 3:48 put the Pilots (3-2) ahead to stay, 58-57. LSUS scored the final points on a Ny'Keria Jones layup with two seconds remaining — that followed
Maya Trench's missed 3 with nine seconds remaining.
Nahrie Pierce had season highs of 12 points and seven rebounds for the Gold Nuggets, and Trench and German scored eight points apiece. Pierce scored all her points in the second half.
Fu'tra Banks scored 19 points for LSUS, and De'Auja Thompson had 14 points, 14 rebounds and five assists. Jones scored 12 points, and Taylor Jacob — a Gold Nuggets freshman during the 2017-18 season — scored 10.
XULA led 18-17 after one quarter but trailed 36-29 at halftime. The Nuggets rallied to take a 53-51 lead through three quarters but were outscored 9-4 in the final period.
