ALEXANDRIA, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana
women's basketball got a season-high 15 points from
Kyla Duncan but lost 102-75 Saturday at LSU-Alexandria.
Duncan also grabbed nine rebounds and blocked a shot for the
Gold Nuggets (9-6).
The Generals (7-4) had only six available players but produced
five double-figure scorers. Kelsey Thaxton scored a career-high 29 points and made 6-of-9 3-pointers,
and Brittany Hall had 27 points, 10 assists and four steals.
XULA's other double-figure scorer was
Shaelynn Moore with 11 points.
Abryhia Irons had nine points, six rebounds and two steals.
Two other Generals produced double-doubles: Jamaya Galloway had 11 points and
13 rebounds, and Kendriana Washington had 16 points and 10 rebounds.
LSUA outshot XULA 56.5 to 34.2 percent from the floor.
The Generals took the lead for good in the third minute, led 51-38 at halftime
and held their largest lead, 95-63, after JaChristany Demouchet's 3-pointer with
4:52 remaining.
LSUA became the first countable XULA opponent to score
100 points since Lambuth in a Nov. 14, 1997, road game.
The Gold Nuggets will open defense of their Gulf Coast Athletic
Conference regular-season championship in a 2 p.m. game next Saturday at Philander Smith
in Little Rock, Ark. Philander Smith won its GCAC opener Saturday, 69-62 at home against Edward Waters.
