XULA zips past Jarvis Christian, increases win streak to 6

HAWKINS, Texas — Xavier University of Louisiana hit a season-high .450 Saturday in a 25-9, 25-12, 25-11 Red River Athletic Conference volleyball victory against Jarvis Christian.
It was the third match this season the Gold Nuggets (10-6 overall, 9-1 RRAC) hit .400-or-higher and the 26th time in the program's 14 seasons.
Leading XULA's offense was Angela Egonu with seven kills and a .636 hitting percentage. Taylor McGee had six kills and hit .455, and Stella Dineva had six kills and hit .444. Semira Blair had 16 assists and four aces, Linda Mungai had 15 digs, and McGee had two blocks. Giulia Follador amd Mungai served two aces apiece.
Keyona Easter had five kills for Jarvis Christian (8-19, 3-7).
XULA had a 14-2 first-set run, 10-3 and 8-2 second-set runs and, after a tie at 9, a 13-0 third-set run. It was the second time this season and the 26th time during Pat Kendrick's five seasons as head coach that XULA won all three sets and won each by double digits. Nearly 20 percent of the victories during the Kendrick era have met that criteria.
XULA won in 55 minutes, extended its season-best win streak to six and won for the 10th time in its last 12 matches. Next for XULA will be its home and regular-season finale: 6 p.m. Friday against RRAC opponent Louisiana College at the Convocation Center. The RRAC Tournament will be Nov. 12-13 at San Antonio, Texas.
