       TEXARKANA, Texas — Xavier University of Louisiana built an early lead Friday before losing 9-6 to Lyon in XULA's second-ever intercollegiate softball game.
       XULA (1-1) will play twice more Saturday in the Eagle Classic: 10 a.m. against Lyon and noon against Texas A&M-Texarkana. The first home date will be Thursday in a 3 p.m. doubleheader against Bethel (Tenn.) at Wesley Barrow Stadium's softball facility.

Tamia Washington's two-run homer in the third inning gave XULA a 4-0 lead. But the Scots (2-0), who were among the "others receiving votes" in the NAIA preseason coaches poll, tied the score after a two-run fourth inning and a four-run fifth, then broke the tie with three in the sixth.
       Lyon collected 12 hits, including five doubles, and five walks. XULA had seven hits, two by
Endya Gillard, and five walks, two by
Brittany Ensley. Gillard had two RBIs, and Ensley and
Alyssa Barajas had one apiece.
       Cheyenne Herrera has three hits for Lyon, and Jasmine Carlos and Madison Sansom had two RBIs apiece.
