XULA drops both games of doubleheader at LSUA

ALEXANDRIA, La. — Bailey Hughes hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning Saturday to give LSU-Alexandria a 6-4 victory against Xavier University of Louisiana and complete a doubleheader sweep.
        LSUA won the opener 9-1.
XULA built a 4-0 lead by scoring twice in the first inning and twice in the fourth. Mecolett Bradley's sacrifice fly to center scored Kassidy Moore with the first run, and Destyn Jones singled home Tamia Washington to make it 2-0.
XULA extended its lead when Jones and Vivionna Robles scored on a two-out error after Najah Nicholas singled to center.
XULA's offensive leaders for the doubleheader were Jones with two hits, two walks, a run and an RBI and Moore with two hits, two runs, a walk and 3-of-3 stolen bases.
LSUA had more extra-base hits in the doubleheader (8) than Xavier had hits (6, all singles).
XULA, in its first-ever season of softball, is 3-12. LSUA is 13-9.
Next for XULA will be a noon Saturday home doubleheader against Talladega at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
