NEW ORLEANS —
Juwan Fitch pitched
a complete game, and
Co Co Simoneaux and
Antonio Rodriguez hit home runs to help Xavier University of
Louisiana defeat Mississippi University for Women 15-0 at Wesley Barrow Stadium
in the opener of a three-game baseball series.
The game was stopped after 6 1/2 innings
because of the 10-run rule.
The teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader
Saturday. Start time was pushed back one hour because of expected overnight rain.
XULA (17-4), No. 1
in the Black College Nines small-school HBCU rankings announced Thursday,
won for the 12th time in its last 13 games. The shutout was XULA's fourth this year,
and the winning margin was a season high.
Fitch (6-0), a freshman left-hander,
did not allow a run for the fourth consecutive start. He allowed three hits, walked
four and struck out five to lower his season ERA to 1.59.
