ST. LOUIS — Lindsey Wilson's
Madison Bidwell and Radaisy Valdez combined for 20 kills and a .500 hitting percentage
Saturday in a 25-7, 25-20, 25-15 volleyball victory against Xavier University
of Louisiana at Missouri Baptist's Spartan Invitational.
XULA finished 0-3 in the two-day tournament — all its matches
were against ranked opponents —
and is 0-4 overall. The Gold Nuggets will travel to Pineville, La., next Saturday
for their first-ever Red River Athletic Conference match — 1 p.m. against Louisiana College.
Lindsey Wilson, ranked 20th in the NAIA,
finished 2-1 in this event and is 9-2 overall.
Bidwell and Valdez had 10 kills apiece.
Bidwell hit .562, and Valdez — who began the day as the NAIA leader in hitting
percentage — hit .444.
The Blue Raiders were stellar defensively, too.
They limited XULA to a minus-.020 hitting percentage.
Kennedy Wade had eight kills, eight digs, an ace and a block for XULA.
Taylor McGee had five kills and three blocks.
Kendall Mack produced a match-high five blocks,
Emi Riglioni
served two aces, and
Linda Mungai had 11 digs.
XULA led 13-12 in the second set and 7-2 in the third. In the final set four
consecutive XULA attack errors concluded an 8-0 run that put Lindsey Wilson ahead to stay.
