Richard leads Rush to road victory; Saturday Wiley doubleheader rescheduled

TEXARKANA, Texas — Makye Richard's 16 points, five assists and career-high-tying 14 rebounds Thursday led NAIA No. 19 Xavier University of Louisiana to a 72-57 Red River Athletic Conference men's basketball victory against Texas A&M-Texarkana.
XULA (11-2 overall, 2-1 RRAC) recorded its eighth double-digit victory this season and its first on the road. The Gold Rush are 3-0 on opponents' courts.
Richard grabbed 10 first-half rebounds and scored 14 second-half points. The double-double was his second of the season and the 11th of his college career.
TJ Jones and Lance Williams scored 11 points apiece for the Gold Rush, and Nigel Allen scored 10. Williams, Allen and Jeremy Lindsey made two 3-pointers apiece.
Corey Dunning grabbed nine rebounds for the third consecutive game, and he and Richard led XULA to a 40-22 rebound advantage.
Connor Ouellette scored 16 points for the Eagles (7-4, 0-2, and Kelton Edwards and Jordan Mitchell scored 12 apiece.
XULA led 28-19 at halftime and built its largest advantage, 65-41, on Lindsey's 3-pointer with 3:45 remaining.
The Gold Rush outshot the Eagles 43.9 to 36.4 from the floor. XULA attempted a season-best 27 free throws but struggled again with accuracy, making 14 for 51.9 percent — the seventh time this season that XULA shot less than 60 percent.
The 11-2 start is XULA's first since the 2012-13 season.
XULA's Saturday RRAC home doubleheader against Wiley was rescheduled for Feb. 22 at the Convocation Center. Next for XULA will be a Monday non-conference doubleheader at Tougaloo — women's game at 5:30 p.m., men's game at 7:30.
