Egonu leads Gold Nuggets to RRAC Tournament championship match

        NEW ORLEANS — Angela Egonu's career-high 15 kills Friday led second-seeded Xavier University of Louisiana to a 25-11, 25-12, 25-13 women's volleyball victory against sixth-seeded Southwest (N.M.) in the semifinals of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament at XULA's Convocation Center.
        The Gold Nuggets (20-8) will play at 3 p.m. Saturday at XULA against top-seeded Our Lady of the Lake (21-4) for the championship and an automatic bid to NAIA nationals.
        Egonu hit .571 in 21 attacks and had an ace, two blocks and seven digs.
        XULA outhit the Mustangs .416 to minus-.040 — it was the second time this season the Gold Nuggets reached .400 — and produced advantages of 40-16 in kills, 7-2 in aces, 38-25 in digs and 9-1 in blocks.
        Kennedy Wade had 10 kills, hit .400 and had two blocks for XULA. Emi Riglioni had 20 assists, two aces and eight digs. Adaeze Crenshaw and Kendall Mack had four blocks apiece.
        Alexia Esparza hit .300 with eight kills for Southwest (8-18).
        The other tournament matches:
        •  Our Lady of the Lake 3, Louisiana Christian 1:  Mia Dorsey, Camila Ramirez and Mia Francis combined for 49 kills in the Saints' 25-22, 19-25, 25-18, 25-15 semifinal victory. Dorsey hit .455 with 24 kills, 10 digs and three blocks. Tina Trevino had 22 digs. Ramirez had 13 kills, Francis 12. Destinee Farris had 14 kills for the Wildcats (10-13), and Leah Stamps had 27 digs. OLLU outhit Louisiana Christian .278 to .158. The Saints extended their school-record win streak to 16.
        •  Southwest (N.M.) 3, Texas A&M-Texarkana 1:  The Mustangs overcame 58 errors, 33 on attacks, to win 18-25, 25-23, 27-25, 29-27 in the first round become the first No. 6 seed since 2014 to advance in the RRAC Tournament. Valeria Trevino had 15 kills, an ace, four blocks and 19 digs for Southwest. Gabriela Tapia served three aces, and Kennedy McRuffin and Autumn Lopez had 18 digs apiece for Southwest. Sasha Bajek had 11 kills, two aces, a block and seven digs for third-seeded Texas A&M-Texarkana (15-13), and Katherine Toftemark had nine kills and five blocks. The Eagles completed their first season of varsity competition.
        •  Louisiana Christian 3, Jarvis Christian 1:  Destinee Farris opened the tournament by hitting .467 with 16 kills and two blocks in the Wildcats' 25-20, 25-22, 17-25, 25-19 victory against the Lady Bulldogs. Katie Spell and Aniah Adams had 10 kills apiece for LCU, and Kierra Jones had six blocks. Aaronyana Wilson hit .444 with 15 kills for fifth-seeded Jarvis Christian (17-12).
