RRAC leader defeats Gold Nuggets

TEXARKANA, Texas — Diamond Sweats scored a season-high 26 points Thursday to lead Texas A&M-Texarkana to a 76-49 Red River Athletic Conference women's basketball victory against Xavier University of Louisiana.
The Eagles (14-1 overall, 9-0 RRAC), who have a two-game lead in the loss column over LSU-Shreveport and Our Lady of the Lake, won their 11th straight. All but one of the Eagles' victories this season are by double digits.
The Gold Nuggets (9-6, 4-4) lost by 20-plus points for the second time in four days.
Sweats, a 5-foot-11 junior guard in her first season at TAMUT, was 8-of-11 from the floor, 5-of-6 on 3-pointers and 5-of-6 from the line in 32 minutes. Sweats also had seven rebounds and five assists.
Abryhia Irons, Shylia McGee and Rayna Ross scored 11 points apiece for XULA. McGee grabbed eight rebounds.
TAMUT led 11-10, then pulled away with a 22-4 run. The Eagles led 42-21 at halftime and 63-37 through three quarters.
XULA shot a season-low 28.6 percent from the floor. The Gold Nuggets missed all nine of their 3-point attempts, and the Eagles made 7-of-17 3s.
XULA's Saturday RRAC game at Paul Quinn was canceled. A rash of injuries forced Paul Quinn to cancel its remaining women's games. Next for XULA will be a 5:30 p.m. Monday game against LSUS at the Convocation Center.
