LAUREL, Miss. — Xavier University of Louisiana produced 39 baserunners in 12 innings Tuesday to sweep a softball doubleheader at Southeastern Baptist. The Gold Nuggets won 13-4, then 12-2.
The second game ended after five innings because of the eight-run rule.
Chenai Keyes,
Kenedi Jackson were a combined 9-for-9 in reaching base safely in the opener. Keyes homered, doubled and had five RBIs; Jackson scored four times, stole six bases and worked the final five innings to earn her first pitching victory of the season.
In the second game,
Shay Angelle was 4-for-4 with two doubles and a home run.
Mecolett Bradley had three RBIs.
XULA had a season-high 18 hits in the second game. The Gold Nuggets' 13 runs in the opener were a season high and their second most in a game. This is XULA's third softball season.
Keyes finished the day with six RBIs, and Bradley had four.
Madison Winston scored five runs. Jackson scored four times and was 7-for-7 in stolen bases. The Gold Nuggets stole 21 bases, 14 in the opener.
XULA will play two Red River Athletic Conference home doubleheaders this week at Wesley Barrow Stadium: 2 p.m. Friday against LSU-Alexandria and 1 p.m. Saturday against Louisiana Christian.
