Walk-off homer for Angelle; Gold Nuggets, Wildcats split

NEW ORLEANS — Shay Angelle's walk-off home run with two out and Vivionna Robles on first base gave Xavier University of Louisiana a 7-5 victory Sunday against Louisiana Christian in the first game of a Red River Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
Louisiana Christian gained a split with a 5-2 victory in the second game.
XULA (13-23 overall, 5-15 RRAC) will conclude an eight-game homestand with a 2 p.m. CDT doubleheader Tuesday against NCAA Division I Southern.
The Gold Nuggets scored in each of the first four innings of the opener to take a 5-3 lead, but Jaice Scott's two-out, two-run single to center field in the sixth tied the score.
With two out and the bases empty in the bottom of the seventh, Mecolett Bradley singled to center. Robles pinch ran, then Angelle hit the first pitch from reliever Miah Broussard over the left-field wall to end XULA's six-game RRAC home losing streak.
XULA led the second game 2-1 through six innings — Kadence Means homered to center with none out in the fourth to score Alexis Richardson, who singled — but the Wildcats (20-21, 10-11) sent 10 to the plate in a four-run seventh that included back-to-back RBI doubles by Olivia Coaker and BreAnna Corkern.
Vannity Robles pitched every inning of the doubleheader for XULA. Bradley and Madison Winston had five hits apiece; Bradley doubled twice, and Winston tripled.
