SAN ANTONIO, Texas —
Xavier University of Louisiana baseball, still in contention for
the seventh or eighth seed in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament,
lost 17-3 Friday to Our Lady of the Lake in the opener of a three-game series.
The Gold Rush (16-20 overall, 7-18 RRAC)
and Saints (25-18, 15-9) will meet at noon CDT Saturday in a doubleheader.
XULA never led. OLLU scored the
first five runs and scored nine in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Half an inning later, the game was halted because of the 10-run rule.
XULA's
D'Aires Davis was 3-for-3
with a double, an RBI and a walk.
Michael Sonn,
Skyler Roberts and
Dillon Cousin
had two hits apiece. Davis, Sonn and
Saul Gonzalez doubled, and Roberts homered
in the fifth inning for the first Gold Rush run.
Diego Zuniga had four RBIs and
Francisco Martinez three for OLLU, which collected 14 hits and nine
walks against three pitchers.
Southwest (N.M) is seventh
in the RRAC at 10-16, followed by Huston-Tillotson at 9-17,
Jarvis Christian at 9-18, then XULA. The top eight teams in the RRAC
standings will qualify for the league tournament May 5-8 at Sterlington, La.
