SAN ANTONIO, Texas —
Winning pitcher Cassandra Valdez homered twice and drove in five runs Thursday morning to lead NAIA No. 2 and top-seeded Our Lady of
the Lake to a 13-0 softball victory against Xavier University of Louisiana
in the opening round of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament.
The game ended after 4 1/2 innings because of the eight-run rule.
The eight-team tournament is double elimination.
The Gold Nuggets, 18-28 and seeded eighth, will play an elimination game against LSU-Alexandria —
a 2-0 first-round loser to Houston-Victoria — at 10 a.m. CDT
Friday at St. Mary's University Softball Stadium. If XULA defeats LSUA, the Gold Nuggets would play
another elimination game at 3 p.m. Friday at the same venue.
Valdez hit two-run homers in the first and third innings.
Ariel Montgomery hit a three-run double during a six-run second inning. OLLU (43-4) extended its win streak to 34 games.
XULA had three baserunners:

Chenai Keyes walked with one out in the first inning.
• Keyes led off the fourth with an infield single.
•
Kadence Means singled up the middle with one out in the fifth.
The Saints produced their 12th shutout victory of the season
and their third in a row. OLLU outscored XULA 28-0 in three meetings this season.
