Xavier University of Louisiana won 25-12, 25-12, 25-16
Friday at Texas College in the opener of a two-match Red River Athletic Conference women's volleyball series.
The teams will meet again at noon Saturday.
Kennedy Wade had eight kills for the Gold Nuggets (10-4 overall, 7-0 RRAC),
and teammates
Sydney Murray,
Stella Dineva and
Taylor Parker had seven apiece.
Parker, the reigning RRAC Attacker of the Week, hit .267 with an ace, six blocks
and three digs. Dineva hit .357 with three aces and eight digs, and
Charity Metcalf — a sophomore setter wearing the libero jersey for the first time at XULA —
served three aces and had a match-high 12 digs.
Kristen Stewart had six kills and seven digs for the Lady Steers (0-5, 0-5),
and Felecianna Long served three aces.
XULA outhit Texas College .300 to minus-.049.
XULA remained in a first-place tie in the RRAC
with Our Lady of the Lake, which won 25-16, 20-25, 25-22, 27-29, 15-11 at home against Texas A&M-Texarkana.
It was the Eagles' first conference loss this season.
