NAIA men's basketball coaches poll of Jan. 17, 2024
NEW ORLEANS —
Xavier University of Louisiana men's basketball, in first place in
the Red River Athletic Conference by a half-game over three teams,
will visit one of those challengers Thursday.
The Gold Rush (11-3 overall, 7-2 RRAC)
will play LSU-Shreveport (11-3, 6-2) at 7:30 p.m. at The Dock, LSUS' campus gym.
XULA took sole possession of the RRAC lead Monday
when it won 57-44 at North American. But just a heartbeat from the top are LSUS,
LSU-Alexandria (6-2 conference) and Texas College (7-3).
XULA and LSUS will meet for the first of two times this
regular season — the Pilots will visit XULA Feb. 15, two days after Mardi Gras —
and for the first time since last season's RRAC Tournament final in Alexandria, La.,
when the Gold Rush used a 41-18 run in the final 14:45 for a 79-63 upset of the
top-seeded, 17th-ranked Pilots.
LSUS was 12th in Wednesday's NAIA
coaches poll, down eight notches from Dec. 13. XULA, 21st in December, dropped into the
"others receiving votes" category.
This will be the second of three road games
this week for the XULA men, who will stay on the road and play Texas A&M-Texarkana at 4 p.m. Saturday.
