AUSTIN, Texas —
Joy Campbell and
Kam Shelley scored 17 points apiece Saturday to lead unbeaten Xavier University of Louisiana to a 68-45 Red River Athletic Conference women's basketball victory against Huston-Tillotson.
Campbell scored 15 points to lead the Gold Nuggets (7-0 overall, 4-0 RRAC) to a 34-26 halftime advantage. Shelley scored all her points in the second half, including three 3-pointers.
Lauren Banks scored 12 points for XULA, and
Patricia Sosa Lora had 10 points and eight rebounds. Banks and Shelley had four steals apiece, and Campbell had three.
Aliyah Carter, with 12 points, was the only double-figure scorer for Huston-Tillotson (4-3, 3-1).
XULA outshot the Rams 39.7 to 22.4 percent from the floor, outrebounded them 49-36 and snapped HT's four-game win streak. Huston-Tillotson missed all 12 of its 3-point attempts.
The Gold Nuggets won 21 of their last 24 games dating to last season. It was their third road victory in six days. XULA is 7-0 for the second consecutive season; before 2023-24, the Gold Nuggets' last 7-0 start was in 2010-11.
XULA will play host to LSU-Alexandria (6-1) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Convocation Center. It will be a doubleheader; the men of XULA and LSUA will tip off at 7:30 p.m.
