Shelley's shot snaps Shreveport streak

SHREVEPORT, La. — Kam Shelley beat the buzzer Monday with a 3-pointer from 30 feet, giving Xavier University of Louisiana a 65-62 Red River Athletic Conference women's basketball victory against LSU-Shreveport.
The Gold Nuggets' best start in 43 seasons continued. They're 9-0 overall and in sole possession of first place in the RRAC at 6-0. XULA ended the 30-game conference win streak of the Pilots (5-3, 4-1).
On an inbounds play that began with 1.9 seconds remaining, Shelley sprinted from the low post to catch a right-sideline pass from Lauren Banks. Shelley had sufficient space to deliver the winner, which referees confirmed after a video review.
"This was a very intense, emotional moment for me," Shelley said. "We had to get this win."
Shelley, the team's leading scorer with 17 points per game, had a season-high 22 points. Zaria Harleaux scored 14 points, Banks scored nine, Patricia Sosa Lora grabbed 13 rebounds, and Joy Campbell had nine assists, five steals and six rebounds.
"We're a great team when we all work together," Shelley said.
Helena Galunic and Selma Markisic scored 13 points apiece for the Pilots.
The Gold Nuggets never trailed after an 18-2 run gave them a 23-9 lead in the 15th minute, but LSUS rallied to tie at 37, 51 and 62 — the latter on Alyssa Christophe's 3-pointer with 1.9 seconds remaining.
The Gold Nuggets will break for semester exams, then play RRAC home games Dec. 12 against Texas A&M-Texarkana, Dec. 19 against Southwest (N.M.) and Dec. 21 against Paul Quinn. A victory against TAMUT would tie the program-record 10-0 start from 1980-81.
