SALINA, Kan. — Xavier University of Louisiana snapped a nine-match women's volleyball losing streak Saturday morning with a 25-22, 25-15, 25-18 victory against Sterling at the Kansas Wesleyan Coyote Classic.
The Gold Nuggets — 2-9 this season and 1-2 in this event — will play Stephens at noon Saturday in their final tournament match.
Laila Person had 13 kills, her season high, for XULA.
The Gold Nuggets' .307 hitting percentage and 11 aces were season bests.
Kennedy Campbell served four aces, and
Bengisu Kazazlar and
Olivia Arroyo had three apiece. Kazazlar hit .500 with four kills, 26 assists, seven digs and a block.
Stella Dineva had eight kills and two blocks for XULA, and
Taylor Parker had seven kills and two blocks.
Ruxandra Flueras had 10 digs to move within eight of 2,000 in her college career.
Aliya McClanahan had seven kills for the Warriors (7-3), who dropped their third straight.
XULA produced runs of 13-2 in the first set, 15-4 to open the second and 10-3 in the third.
