Zaria Harleaux and
Joy Campbell combined for 39 points with only five missed shots Thursday
to lead unbeaten Xavier University of Louisiana in a wire-to-wire 85-53 Red River Athletic
Conference women's basketball victory against Huston-Tillotson.
The Gold Nuggets — 18-0 overall, first place in the Red River
at 15-0 and ranked 21st in the NAIA —
will play host to the RRAC's second-place team, LSU-Shreveport (15-3, 14-1), at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in XULA's Convocation Center.
Harleaux scored 20 points, a season high, and had six rebounds, three steals
and three blocked shots. She was 6-of-7 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the line.
Campbell produced a double-double with 19 points and 10 assists, and she had three steals.
Campbell was 7-of-9 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the line.
Lauren Banks had 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists
for XULA,
Shania Swan scored nine points, and
Kyla Cage grabbed six rebounds in 10 minutes.
Tyaija Coleman scored 17 points and Summer Thomas 11
for the Rams (8-9, 7-7), and they grabbed seven rebounds apiece.
XULA outshot the Rams 46.8 to 27.1 percent from the floor
and outrebounded them 46-36. XULA led 44-23 at halftime.
The Gold Nuggets are the only XULA basketball
team since 1941, female or male, to start a season with 18 consecutive victories.
The 1940-41 Gold Rush finished that season 29-0. This season XULA is one of seven still-unbeaten
NAIA women's teams. Among all four-year colleges, XULA is one of 18 still unbeaten.
