NEW ORLEANS —
Fifteen walks and four hit batters Saturday helped Xavier University of Louisiana baseball
defeat Jarvis Christian 10-4 at Skelly-Rupp Stadium to complete a
three-game Red River Athletic Conference sweep.
Five Gold Rush run-scorers walked,
and three were hit by pitches.
The bottom of XULA's lineup
was the most difficult for the Bulldogs to pitch to. Eight-hole hitter
Cam Finn walked three times and was hit once, and nine-hole hitter
Caleb Washington walked all five times he batted. Washington scored twice,
and Finn's courtesy runner,
Kendall Larry, scored twice.
Miles Peterson had two RBIs for XULA,
and
Zion Morris and
Alex Crews had two hits apiece.
Starter and winning pitcher
Jeremy Clark (1-1)
allowed two earned runs and struck out seven in six innings, then
Colby Henderson
pitched the final three innings to produce the first Gold Rush save this season.
XULA (4-6 overall, 3-3 RRAC) never trailed and did not need a hit
to take a 3-0 lead through two innings.
For Jarvis Christian (0-3, 0-3), Vincent Lasanta
had two RBIs, and Alexis Bobyn scored twice and hit his fourth double of the series.
XULA will visit NAIA No. 21 and city rival Loyola
at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Segnette Field in Westwego, La., then travel to Houston-Victoria
for a three-game conference series (6:30 p.m. Friday, noon doubleheader Saturday).
