NEW ORLEANS —
Xavier University of Louisiana and the University of Southwest will meet
for the fourth consecutive year in the men's basketball quarterfinals of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Gold Rush (20-8, No. 2 seed)
and Mustangs (15-12, No. 7 seed) will tip off at 11:30 a.m. CST Friday at
Laborde Earles Coliseum — formerly Rapides Parish Coliseum — in Alexandria, La.
XULA won 74-59 against the Mustangs in 2022
and — sparked by
Jathen Ross' school-record 10 3-pointers — 94-59 in 2023. But a year
ago sixth-seeded Southwest won 75-65 against third-seeded XULA.
XULA is 2-0 against Southwest this season, winning
80-69 at home Dec. 19 and 53-49 on the road Feb. 15.
The XULA-Southwest winner will play
third-seeded Our Lady of the Lake or sixth-seeded Louisiana Christian in
the semifinals at 1 p.m. Saturday. The championship game will tip off at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to NAIA nationals. XULA won its lone
RRAC Tournament title in 2023.
