Shania Swan scored a career-high-tying 16 points Tuesday
to help NAIA No 18 Xavier University of Louisiana earn an 88-65
Red River Athletic Conference women's basketball victory
against Jarvis Christian.
The Gold Nuggets (21-1 overall, 18-1 RRAC)
moved into a first-place tie in the conference with LSU-Shreveport, which was idle.
Swan made four 3-pointers
and was one of three XULA reserves to score in double figures.
The others with
Janiya Reed and
Sierra Headquist with 10 points apiece.
Among the starters,
Lauren Banks scored 13 points, and
Joy Campbell had 11.
Zaria Harleaux grabbed seven rebounds
for XULA, and Reed had a season-high seven assists.
Taylor Gordon scored 16 points and Carmella Hayden 14
for the Bulldogs (3-16, 3-15), who have lost five straight overall and 12 straight on road dating to February 2024.
It was the Bulldogs' sixth game under interim coach Miles Grandberry, who replaced Niki Collins in mid-January.
XULA outshot the Bulldogs 48.5 to 32.3 percent from the floor
and outrebounded them 51-38.
The Gold Nuggets will play their final five
Red River games on the road. Their next one will tip off at 5:30 p.m. Thursday
against Texas A&M-Texarkana. The final XULA home appearance of the regular season will be the Crosstown Classic
doubleheader Feb. 18 against Dillard at the Convocation Center.
