HAWKINS, Texas — Xavier University of Louisiana produced five double-figure scorers and plenty of second-half free throws Saturday to earn an 81-74 Red River Athletic Conference men's basketball victory against Jarvis Christian.
The Gold Rush (17-6 overall, 16-5 RRAC) won for the sixth time in seven games and remained in second place in the conference, 1 1/2 games ahead of third-place Our Lady of the Lake.
Seviuhn Turner and
James Weathers scored 14 points apiece for XULA.
Omarion Bodrick scored 13,
Lance Williams 12 and
J'Quan Ewing 11.
XULA led 40-36 at halftime, then clinched by making 23-of-28 second-half free throws. Weathers made all nine of his attempts.
Jamari Robertson scored 23 points for Jarvis Christian (9-14, 9-11), which lost its third in a row and its second in five days against XULA.
The Gold Rush will return to the road for three conference games next week, starting with Red River leader and NAIA No. 2 LSU-Alexandria at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The final XULA home appearance of the regular season will be the Crosstown Classic doubleheader Feb. 18 against Dillard at the Convocation Center.
