Eagles fly past Gold Rush

TEXARKANA, Texas — Texas A&M-Texarkana won 12-1 Saturday against Xavier University of Louisiana to complete a three-game sweep of a Red River Athletic Conference baseball series.
The game ended after 6 1/2 innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Cam Finn homered, his first of the season, for XULA in the final inning. The Gold Rush had six hits, two apiece by Eric Griffin and Jayden Smith.
The Eagles' Joey Spence had four RBIs — including a three-run homer in the fourth inning — and winner Dylan Cabral (3-2) pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts.
XULA is 5-20 overall and 3-15 in the Red River. TAMUT is 22-9 and 11-4.
Next for XULA will be a three-game non-conference home series against the United States Sports Academy at Skelly-Rupp Stadium (2515 Vespasian Blvd, zip 70114): a 1 p.m. Saturday doubleheader, then 1 p.m. the next day.
