NAIA No. 6 LSUA defeats Gold Nuggets twice

ALEXANDRIA, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana lost 9-1 and 2-0 to NAIA No. 6 LSU-Alexandria in Red River Athletic Conference softball Tuesday.
It was the third of five road doubleheaders in seven days for XULA.
Next for the Gold Nuggets (12-16 overall, 8-14 Red River) will be conference doubleheaders at Huston-Tillotson at 1 p.m. Friday and at Houston-Victoria at 1 p.m. Saturday. Live video of those games will be offered on YouTube at www.youtube.com/@xulasoftball/streams.
LSUA (33-3, 16-0) has won 20 of its last 21 games.
Coupled with Louisiana Christian's home sweep of Jarvis Christian, XULA and the Wildcats swapped places in the conference standings. XULA is seventh and battling for one of the eight spots in the RRAC Tournament.

Game 1
Arin Dale's sacrifice fly to left field scored Miya Covington, who led off the game with a single, and gave XULA a 1-0 lead. But the Generals scored twice in the first and fourth innings and five times in the third to produce the mercy-rule victory. Madi Baker had three RBIs for LSUA, and winning pitcher Haley Primrose hit a two-run homer. Primrose (18-3) did not allow a hit after Covington's single.

Game 2
XULA's Maia Tyler pitched a complete game and limited the Generals to their fewest runs in their last nine games against NAIA opponents. LSUA scored on Julia Kwakernaak's RBI single in the first inning and Primrose's RBI double with two out in the third. Alyssa Soileau (13-0) and Kirsten Martinez combined on a three-hitter. Madison Winston singled, walked twice and stole a base for the Gold Nuggets.
