NEW ORLEANS - XULA fell four points short here Saturday, dropping a 55-51 heart-breaker to Texas A&M Texarkana in RRAC play.
The Gold Nuggets (6-7, 3-5 RRAC) were solid defensively, forcing Texarkana (9-6, 8-2 RRAC) into 19 turnovers. However, the Eagles took advantage of their 19 trips to the free-throw line, hitting 13 to overcome Xavier, which shot 5-for-10 from the charity stripe.
A pair of XULA women scored in double figures in the game. Laila Sigure, who played in reserve, led the team with 15 points while Tiarra Tillison scored 14.
Ryli Martin, another reserve player, added 8 points and a team-high 7 rebounds. Alicia Blanton added 7 points.
Xavier remains at home for its next contest, a Tuesday Red River Athletic Conference game against LSU-Alexandria. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
