Box Score HAWKINS, Texas - The Xavier men's basketball team outlasted a game Jarvis Christian here Thursday night, riding a 46.6 percent team shooting performance and another strong defensive showing to a 78-71 conference win.
The Gold Rush (10-5, 7-3 RRAC) forced Jarvis (8-7, 5-6 RRAC) into 21 turnovers on the night and got blocks from five players.
Five XULA men scored in double figures on the night. Center Jamal Gibson led the way with 18 points. He was also a single rebound short of his fourth double-double of the year, and also contributed 4 steals and a block.
Seviuhn Turner, Xavier's multi-purpose senior, scored 16 points and pulled 6 boards, while Leon Williams added 12 points and Elijah Pichon scored 10 points off the bench.
Senior guard Bentravin Phillips, fresh off a massive night against LSU-A, scored 14 points, pulled 3 rebounds, and dished out 2 assists.
Next up for the Gold Rush is a Saturday visit to Texas College for a Red River Athletic Conference contest that begins at 3 p.m.
