TYLER, Texas - The Xavier men's basketball team followed up its Thursday night rout of Jarvis Christian by blazing past the century mark against Texas College on Saturday, taking a 113-71 In the process.
The Gold Rush (10-5, 8-3 RRAC) dominated the Steers (3-13, 2-9 RRAC) in every aspect of the game and led by 20 or more points for most of the second half.
Defensively, Xavier continued its tradition of making points hard to come by and held Texas College to 34 percent shooting and forced 13 turnovers, which XULA converted into 21 points.
As is to be expected in a game with so many points, the Gold Rush offense was dynamic throughout the contest. Eleven players scored on the night, with five scoring 8 or more, as Xavier shot an incredible 56.8 percent from the field.
Center Jamal Gibson had a career night, scoring 32 points on 13-for-19 shooting and pulling 8 rebounds.
Bentravin Phillips put up 19 points, Seviuhn Turner scored 16, and Kerel Dean and Kaleb Huggins added 8 apiece.
With the win, Xavier jumped from fourth to third in the Red River Athletic Conference standings.
XULA remains on the road for its next game, a Thursday visit to Pineville for an RRAC contest against Louisiana Christian. Tipoff for that game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
