XULA falls at Loyola in SSAC play

NEW ORLEANS - For the second time this season, the Xavier and Loyola New Orleans volleyball teams put on a classic. Unfortunately, this time, the Gold Nuggets came out on the losing end. 

XULA (10-11, 6-7 SSAC) had come from behind to defeat Loyola (18-8,11-2 SSAC) earlier in the season, but Friday night the visiting Gold Nuggets fell 3-2. 

The Wolfpack won the first set 25-13, but Xavier rebounded to take a 25-23 win in the second. After Loyola won the third set 25-14, XULA again bounced back, this time to the tune of a 25-21 win in the fourth set. In the tie-breaking fifth set, Loyola took a 15-8 win. 

It was a great night for several Gold Nuggets. 

Kamea Uitenham, who has been on a tear of late, had 14 total points on 13 kills and 2 block assists. 

Kennedy Campbell also contributed 14 total points with 12 kills, a service ace, and 2 block assists. Charlie Henderson added 13 total points on 12 kills and a service ace. 

Michaela Clayton led the team in digs with 20 and was one of three players with double-digit digs. The other two players were Kamrynn Williams with 13 and Henderson with 11. 

Felise Jones was the team leader in assists with 21, followed closely by Williams with 19. 

The Gold Nuggets are back in action Saturday with an SSAC home match against Andrew College. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
