Gold Nuggets show up big in exhibition loss to Ragin' Cajuns

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Xavier women's basketball team was 6 points shy of an upset here Tuesday night, but still gave Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns an incredible game in a 77-72 exhibition loss. 

XULA, which remains a perfect 3-0 on the season, led 19-18 after the first quarter and outscored Louisiana in the third and fourth quarters, but a 23-12 run by the Ragin' Cajuns in the second quarter proved the ultimate difference in the contest.

However, even though they faced a 41-31 halftime deficit and an NCAA Division I/Sun Belt Conference opponent, the Gold Nuggets never flinched. 

Several Xavier players put together strong individual performances on the night, with Shania Swan leading the way with a game-high 20 points, as well as 6 rebounds and 3 assists. 

Forward Faith Robinson crafted her fourth consecutive double-double with a 13-point, 13-rebound showing to go along with 3 steals and 2 assists, and Jakayla Gilmer scored 15 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, made 3 steals, and dished out a pair of assists. 

Jala Williams continued her early-season habit of filling the scoresheet, as well, posting 11 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals.

The Gold Nuggets return to regular-season play Saturday at 2 p.m. against Huston Tillotson, part of XULA's Homecoming 2026 tripleheader.
