TEXARKANA, Texas - The XULA men's basketball team came up a single point short in a heartbreaking, 60-59 loss to Texas A&M Texarkana Thursday night.
The Gold Rush (16-12-7 RRAC) were without normal starting center Jamal Gibson, but were still able to generally produce at a similar level with a combination of Torin Bell and Kaleb Huggins playing elevated minutes.
Huggins, in particular, had a strong game, posting 10 points and 7 rebounds. Bell, who started, had two blocked shots.
Normal starting forward Leon Williams also did good work, scoring 12 points, pulling 6 rebounds, and distributing 4 assists. William's point total was tied with reserve guard Mason Guillory for the team high.
Bentravin Phillips and Seviuhn Turner were also had quality performances for the Gold Rush, with Phillips scoring 10 points and Turner scoring 8 points and pulling 4 rebounds.
Xavier wraps its 25-26 road campaign Saturday with a 3 p.m. visit to Red River Athletic Conference-leading LSU-Shreveport.
