Gold Rush get mid-week win over crosstown opponent SUNO

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The XULA Baseball team picked up a big non-conference win here Tuesday night, downing in-city opponent SUNO 6-4 to even the season series at 1-1.

In every way, the Gold Rush's win was a team effort. The team utilized four pitchers, who combined to strike out 7 batters and allow just 3 hits.

Colby Guillory (3-1) picked up the win in relief,  with Charles Carter and Dominik Reimonenq proving particularly effective late in the game, slamming the door on SUNO with 2.2 combined innings of work featuring no hits and no runs surrendered.

Carter pitched 1.2 innings and struck out 2 to set up Reimonenq, who struck out 2-of-3 batters in the 9th and picked up the save.

picked up his second save of the season, working the last 2.2 innings and striking out 4 batters while allowing no hits and no runs.

Offensively, Xavier's success came from numerous players, as the team scored its runs on 8 combined hits from 6 players.

Left fielder Jayden Smith and third baseman Bryce Thomas both had multiple-hit games. Smither went 2-for-5 with a run scored, while Thomas went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored.

Stolen bases were a big story Tuesday night, as XULA collected 4.

Designated hitter Chase DeLoach, who went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored, got a stolen base, and center fielder Cohen Boyd picked up 2 steals.

Kameron Briggs, who started at second base, went 1-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI on the night.

Xavier will seek to build on its momentum later this week, when the Gold Rush return to conference play with a 3-game series against Jarvis Christian. The teams will play a single game on Friday at 6 p.m. with a doubleheader to follow on Saturday at 1 p.m.

All games will be played at Skelly-Rupp Stadium.
