Xavier falls to UT-Southern in SSAC action

NEW ORLEANS - XULA Volleyball suffered a hard-fought loss in the Convocation Center Friday, falling 3-1 to SSAC foe Tennessee Southern.

Xavier won the first set 25-21, but fell 25-16 in the second, 25-22 in the third, and 25-20 in the fourth.

The loss should not overshadow areas of skill for the Gold Nuggets, who got quality play from numerous members of the team.

Freshman Charlie Henderson had a team-high 10.5 points on the night, with 8 kills, 2 service aces, and a block assist to go along with squad-best 17 digs.

Junior Kennedy Campbell was just behind with 10 total points on 9 kills and 2 block assists.

Kamrynn Williams, another standout freshman, accounted for 17 assists, and junior Beatrice Giusti added 10 digs.

A pair of junior outside hitters also contributed strong point totals. Laila Person scored 8.5 total points on 6 kills and 5 block assists, while Kamea Uitenham accounted for 8.0 total points on 7 kills and 2 block assists.

The Gold Nuggets have another big match Saturday at noon when they host SSAC opponent Blue Mountain University.
