Xavier dominates LCU in Big Easy Blastoff

NEW ORLEANS - XULA Volleyball started its home campaign in style, storming past in-state opponent Louisiana Christian 3-0 on Day 1 of the Big Easy Blastoff. 

The Gold Nuggets, who picked up their first win of the young season, dominated in all phases of the game, taking the first set 25-11, second set 25-20, and final set 25-8. 

Serving was a particular strength for Xavier, which benefited from 11 combined service aces, including 4 from Michaela Clayon, 3 from Sara Marzinot, 3 from Charlie Henderson, and 1 from Laila Jackson. 

In the attacking phase, Kamea Uitenham, Kennedy Campbell, and Zoie Mayberry led the way with 12, 10, and 7 kills. Kamrynn Williams was tops with 23 assists, followed by Marzinot with 11. 

As a team, the Gold Nuggets produced a .303 kill percentage, while holding the Wildcats to a collective .012. 

On defense, Clayton was good for 9 digs, with Williams chipping in 8 and Uitenham 7. Mayberry led with 3 total blocks, 1 solo and 2 assists, while Uitenham had a block and an assist, Lauryn Matthews and Laila Person a pair of block assists apiece, and Campbell a block assist. 

XULA resumes action later today with a game against the University of Mobile in the nightcap of the first day of the Big Easy Blastoff.
