Gold Nuggets end perfect Blastoff with win over rival Dillard

NEW ORLEANS - The Gold Nuggets made it 4-for-4 at the 2026 Big Easy Blastoff, defeating crosstown rival Dillard in straigh sets in final match of the tournament. 

XULA (4-4), which last weekend had performed admirably in the highly competitive Bellevue Bruin Classic in Nebraska, leveled its 2026 record at .500. Dillard (4-4) had entered the match three of its last four matches. 

The first set proved the closest, with the Gold Nuggets winning 25-23 before besting the Bleu Devils 25-20 in both the second and third sets. 

For the fourth time in as many matches, Xavier's attack proved more potent than its opponent, and the Gold Nuggets got solid efforts from Kennedy Campbell and Zoie Mayberry, both of whom finished with 11.5 points. 

Campbell provided 11 kills, while Charlie Henderson added 8, and Mayberry and Laila Person added 7 apiece. 

Blocks were a strength all night for XULA, with 5 players combining for 5 solo blocks and 17 block assists. Mayberry had 3 solo blocks and 3 assists, while Lauryn Matthews had 2 solo blocks and 3 assists. 

On the offensive side, Felise Jones assisted on 20 points while Kamrynn Williams assisted on 17. 

Libero Michaela Clayton was good for a game-high 17 digs and was followed by Henderson with 11 and Williams with 10. 

After two grueling weekends, the Gold Rush get a short reprieve before diving in the Southern States Athletic Conference on Saturday, Sept. 12, with a home match against Loyola-New Orleans. First serve is slated for noon in the Convocation Center.
