LSU's Tori Edwards is the first freshman to win two major awards on an All-Louisiana collegiate softball team.
Edwards, a right-hander who played first base for the Tigers in 2025, was chosen Hitter of the Year and Freshman of the Year by a Louisiana Sports Writers Association panel of media and college sports publicists. In both categories she received 13-of-19 votes. This is the 39th season of All-Louisiana softball selections.
The other major award winners:
• Pitcher of the Year: Southeastern Louisiana right-hander Macie LaRue.
• Newcomer of the Year: LSU outfielder Jalia Lassiter.
• Coach of the Year: Southeastern's Rick Fremin.
Edwards, from the Dallas/Fort Worth suburb of Flower Mound, Texas — she was a redshirt after an injury limited her to three games and two starts in 2024 — set LSU season records with four grand slams and an .802 slugging percentage. Edwards tied the Tigers' season record with 18 home runs.
Edwards started all 58 games and hit .383, and her 73 RBIs are No. 3 on LSU's season list.
"[Edwards is] a great representation of the program," LSU head coach Beth Torina said early in the season. "It's nice to see somebody like that have success, that has just worked so hard. She was here all day, on the off day, just working. She's studying film, she's being prepared like she has elite talent, but she also has elite work ethic and elite understanding of the game."
LaRue, a right-hander from the Houston suburb of Lovelady, Texas, was 19-3 with a 2.29 ERA in 149 2/3 innings with 128 strikeouts. She was Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year, but she wasn't eligible for the state award because she was second-team All-Louisiana in 2024 for Bossier Parish Community College.
Lassiter, from Atmore, Ala., and a transfer from Ole Miss, made all-region for the third time and hit .330 with 19 extra-base hits, including three home runs, and 41 RBIs. She started all 58 games in center field and was errorless in 59 chances. Lassiter was voted second-team All-Louisiana.
Fremin, in his 10th year at Southeastern, led the Lions to their second consecutive Southland Conference Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. Before 2024, they had none of either. Southeastern was runner-up at an NCAA regional for the second straight year, this time in Baton Rouge after winning twice against LSU. The Lions finished 50-16 and set a school record for season victories.
LSU, Southeastern, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, LSU-Alexandria and McNeese accounted for all 15 first-team players. LSU had four, Southeastern had three, and ULM, Tech, LSUA and McNeese had two apiece.
The other first-team All-Louisiana players are LSU's Jayden Heavener at pitcher, Maci Bergeron at catcher and Danieca Coffey at third base, Southeastern's Chloe Magee at shortstop and Brilee Ford at designated player, ULM twins Morgan Brown at second base and Meagan Brown in the outfield, Tech's Allie Floyd at pitcher and Elena Heng in the outfield, LSUA's Haley Primrose at pitcher and Kaetlyn Dunbar in the outfield, and McNeese's Maddie Taylor at pitcher and Kassidy Chance at utility.
There are 13 on the second team, and LSUA and Nicholls led with two selections apiece. LSUA's second-team players are catcher Madi Baker and utility Alyssa Soileau, and Nicholls' are Claire Sisco at second base and Riley Rutherford at designated player.
Also on the second team are pitchers Dakota Lake of ULM, Reagan Rios of LSU-Eunice and Maddie Robinson of Baton Rouge Community College, outfielders Kamryn Broussard of Grambling and Nyjah Fontenot of McNeese, Louisiana-Lafayette's Emily Smith at first base, Southeastern's Maria Detillier at third base and Tech's Nicole Hammoude at shortstop.
Twelve student-athletes received honorable mention, including LSUA's Julia Kwakernaak, who plays third base and ranked fifth in the NAIA with a .506 batting average.
NOTES: It's a roller-coaster ride for first-team All-Louisiana freshmen: six were selected in 2023, zero in 2024 and six in 2025 . . . Edwards is LSU's first Hitter of the Year since shortstop Bianka Bell in 2015 . . . Southeastern's Detillier was second-team All-Louisiana for the third time . . . LSU's Coffey made the second team in 2023, and Tech's Floyd made the second team in 2024 . . . Louisiana-Lafayette, which historically has dominated All-Louisiana selections and the major awards, had only one player honored this time — Smith at second-team first base — after finishing 29-25 and not earning an NCAA Tournament bid for the first time since 1998.
