     Leading Xavier University of Louisiana's cross country and track and field teams to competitive and classroom success is Joseph Moses Jr. The 2017-18 academic year was Moses's 13th as coach of the cross country teams and his ninth as coach of track and field.
     XULA's accomplishments under Moses include:
     •  Ten Gulf Coast Athletic Conference team championships in men's cross country: 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016.
     •  Eleven GCAC team championships in women's cross country: 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017.
     •  Six GCAC team championships in women's outdoor track and field: 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018.
     •  Seven GCAC individual men's cross country championships: 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016.
     •  Six GCAC individual women's cross country championships: 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2017.
     •  Seven team appearances each women's cross country (2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017) and six for the men (2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2016) at the NAIA National Championships.
     •  Twenty-two women's team championships in cross country and 20 by the men.
     •  XULA's first CoSIDA Academic All-American: Joe Drexler-Dreis in 2008-09.
     •  XULA's first two-time CoSIDA Academic All-Americans: Matt Pieri and Javon Mead in 2011-12 and 2012-13.
     •  XULA's first Accusplit Top Relay Team award after posting the NAIA's No. 1 time in the women's 800-meter relay during the 2017 outdoor season.
     Moses has been selected GCAC Coach of the Year in cross country nine times on the men's side (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014) and 10 times on the women's (2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017). Four times he was the men's Louisiana Coach of the Year (2006, 2007, 2008, 2013) and he won the women's award a state-record six times (2006, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2016). He is the only person to be voted Louisiana Coach of the Year in men's cross country consecutive times.
     Moses in 2015 and 2017 was selected Louisiana Coach of the Year in women's track and field by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
     Moses also served many years as XULA's strength and conditioning coach. He served as a rater on the NAIA top 25 men's and women's cross country polls.
     Prior to XULA, Moses was the men's track and cross country coach at Independence Community College in Independence, Kan., and coached an All-America javelin thrower. He also was the men's track and cross country coach for two seasons at Charleston Southern University in Charleston, S.C. There he guided 13 athletes to All-Big South Conference honors.
     Moses competed on LSU's track and field team from 1988-91 as a sprinter (100- and 200-meter dashes, 400 relay) and was a member of the Tigers' 1989 NCAA indoor and outdoor championship squads. He received his bachelor of fine arts degree from LSU in 1994.
     Moses has USA Track and Field Level 1 coaching certification. He was born April 8, 1968, in Baton Rouge, La. Moses married the former Kendra O'Bannon of Chico, Calif., on May 26, 2007, and he has a 23-year-old son, Joseph Moses III — a former All-GCAC sprinter for XULA — and a daughter, Gabrielle Amaya, born in 2012.
