Mark Stewart scored 23 points Friday to lead Xavier University of Louisiana to a 76-52 men's basketball victory against Webber International in the University of Mobile Classic at Pharr Gymnasium.
The Gold Rush (4-0) trailed at halftime for the third consecutive game but outscored Webber 43-17 in the second half.
Stewart made six 3-point field goals.
Aaron Burgess had season-highs of 11 points and 11 rebounds for Xavier, and
Shaun Dumas had 10 points and six steals.
"We turned up the defense a little bit in the second half," Xavier Coach Dannton Jackson said. "We held Webber to 27 percent shooting from the floor and 14 percent behind the arc."
For the game Xavier outshot Webber 43 to 41 percent and outrebounded the Warriors 38-34. Xavier committed 21 turnovers but gained a season-high 29.
Webber International (2-4) lost for the fourth consecutive time. Xavier will play Martin Methodist at 5 p.m. Saturday. Mobile defeated Martin Methodist 81-68 in Friday's second game.
