CONWAY, Ark. — Caronica Randle scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds Saturday to lead Central Arkansas to an 81-67 women's basketball victory against Xavier University of Louisiana.
Randle made two free throws with 1:51 remaining in the first half to put Central Arkansas (5-4) ahead for good at 32-30. The Sugar Bears led 38-32 at halftime.
Tiffany Norris and
Jarryn Cleaves each scored 14 points for Xavier (7-4), and Norris grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds. Xavier junior guard
Brittany Whitmore, returning to her hometown, scored seven points before fouling out.
UCA, the only NCAA Division I opponent on Xavier's schedule this season, maintained a double-digit lead the final 15 minutes and took its biggest lead, 77-53, on Allyson Sample's two free throws with 5:21 remaining.
The Sugar Bears earned their fourth consecutive victory and their fifth in six games. They snapped Xavier's two-game winning streak.
The Nuggets' next game will start at 3 p.m. Dec. 29 against Westminster (Utah) in the South Padre Island Shootout at Los Fresnos, Texas.
