NEW ORLEANS — Sisters Danielle and
Marchelle Jones
combined for 26 points Thursday, and both had career highs in Xavier University of
Louisiana's 63-56 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference women's basketball victory over
William Carey.
Danielle Jones scored 16 points, and
Marchelle Jones
had 10.
Brittany Powell added 12 for the Gold Nuggets (12-5 overall, 3-2 GCAC),
who extended their winning streak at The Barn to 25 games.
Fallon Hartfield had 17 points and 10 rebounds for
William Carey (8-6, 3-2). Kim Lewis scored 15 points, and Shonte Kennedy had 10.
The teams were tied at 31 at halftime, then Marchelle
Jones scored on the opening possession of the second half to put the Nuggets
ahead to stay.
Xavier, which shot less than 40 percent from the floor
in each of its past five games, shot 48.3 percent against the Lady Saders. The
Jones sisters combined to make 12-of-17 shots.
Xavier's next game will start at 5 p.m. Saturday against
Dillard in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Crosstown Classic at New Orleans Arena.
